BARC OCES and DGFS Training Programmes Overview

OCES and DGFS training will start in August 2026 for those selected. They are going to pursue a post graduate degree in M.Tech. In July 2026, commencement will take place, to be followed by a four month orientation period.
Stipend and Pay Details
The OCES Trainee Scientific Officers and DGFS Fellows will receive a stipend of 74,000 rupees every month throughout their training period. The OCES trainees will receive a one time book grant of thirty thousand rupees. The DGFS Fellows are eligible for the reimbursement of tuition fees, project-related funding and contingency allowances as prescribed.
Successful candidates will be appointed as Scientific Officers in the 7th CPC pay matrix at level 10, at a basic pay of Rs. 56100. Approximately the total monthly salary upon joining could be about Rs. 1.35 lakhs. This would depend on the place to which the officer is posted.
Selection Process for BARC Scientist 2026
Selection for the OCES and DGFS is a two-stage procedure.
- Applicants will be selected either through a competitive on-line examination or through a valid GATE score of 2024, 2025 or 2026.
- Selected candidates will have to attend a panel interview at either Mumbai or Hyderabad, depending on their discipline.
Selection is solely based on an interview which includes medical checks.
Eligibility Criteria Overview
- Applicants should possess a degree in B.E, B.Tech, B.Sc (Engineering) or integrated M.Tech in the relevant discipline with at least 60% marks.
- Those wishing to pursue a PhD in this field must have a Master’s degree in a relevant subject such as physics, chemistry, geology or biosciences.
Only full-time students on regular undergraduate programmes are eligible. Degrees awarded through correspondence courses or part-time study are not accepted.
The minimum age for this examination is eighteen years and the upper age limit varies from one category to another. However the government can give relaxation in this upper age limit as per the rules. Citizenship of the applicants must be Indian.

BARC Scientist Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
For a scientist post at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, applicants can be shortlisted via a computer based examination or through a valid GATE score.
