As of January 21st 2026, candidates need to meet the following eligibility criteria.
Qualification
The essential qualification for all posts is:
- The minimum qualification required is 10th standard or equivalent with science subjects, with a minimum of 55% marks.
- Having a certificate from a recognised institution in a trade or National/State trade certificate or an ITI certificate.
- Two years of full apprenticeship in the relevant trade, or
- Three years of experience in the relevant trade working in a state government, central government or Union Territory government department or undertaking.
Age Limit
The upper age limit for the UR category is 28 years.

CSIR CMERI Technician Exam Pattern 2025
The selection process involves two stages of assessment. Only those who pass the trade test will be eligible for the written examination.
Stage 1: Trade Test (Qualifying in nature)
- A practical test in the relevant trade. The syllabus will be notified on the university’s website.
Stage 2: Competitive Written Examination
- Mode: OMR or Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Papers: Three papers (General Ability, General Awareness & English, Concerned Subject)
- Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
- Total Marks: 325
- Final Merit: Prepared based on marks obtained in Paper-II and Paper-III only.
