Selection Process for the post of Technician-A
- The process of selection will consist of a written test (Tier I) and a Trade Test (Tier II) as given above.
- Following the written examination, a trade test will be conducted to assess the practical skills of the candidates. This test will be of ITI standard and relate to the trade that the candidate has applied for. The duration of trade tests may be of different lengths depending on the trade.
- It is a qualifying examination in the trade concerned. Trade test is compulsory for all candidates. Minimum 50% marks in aggregate (i.e. 45% marks in aggregate for SC/ST categories and persons with disability and 55% marks in aggregate for OBCs and 60% for general category candidates) are prescribed at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for consideration of admission.
- The marks of tier I and tier II (Part II) may be equated as per necessity.
- The examination will consist of a multiple choice question paper. This paper will contain three sections, all of which are to be answered.
- The test is divided into two tiers. The first tier is an aptitude test and the second is subject related. Following the completion of the second tier, a trade test is required to be passed.
- The method of selection for the posts of technician ‘A’ will be according to the policy of government of India and the needs of the organisation.

Science as a part of general knowledge will test the scientific awareness of an educated person not trained in science. The syllabus of the IITs is designed so that a student who is willing to put in the necessary effort, and has passed the 10 + 2 scheme of Board Examination conducted by the respective Boards of Secondary Education, can enter the IITs after a one year course of study at a recognised Engineering College done after passing the IIT Entrance Examination.
